Charitable organisation Red Cross has got your back every single day in a year.
It is in the face of adversity and tragedy do we notice the silver lining of human compassion, kindness, and critical life lessons that mold and shape the soul.
For close to 70 years, the Singapore Red Cross, a homegrown humanitarian organisation, has been caring for persons with multiple disabilities at its Red Cross Home for the Disabled, 365 days every year. They opened a Day Activity Centre for the Disabled (DAC) in 2010, and moved it into a dedicated facility this year. Integrating social, recreational and therapeutic activities to ensure our clients’ well-being, the DAC balances engagement in daily and community living skills to maximise independence and gives caregivers respite and support.
The DAC integrates meaningful social, recreational and therapeutic activities run by therapists. As part of DAC’s meal preparation programme, therapy aide, Mylen, guides Fahmi in stirring a muffin batter.
Red Cross’ DAC offers respite for caregivers, with the peace of mind that their loved ones are well cared for. Nurul gets her blood pressure checked by our friendly therapy aide, Mylen.
A ‘home away from home’, the DAC offers flexible half or full-day programs. We are opened from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm from Mondays to Fridays. Our staff, Gode, assists Firzanah with her daily physical therapies in a safe and controlled environment.
Nurul celebrates successfully completing her tabletop interventions with a big smile! Her mother and primary caretaker, Mdm Nakia, shares, “DAC has made Nurul’s life more meaningful with outings, new friends and volunteers. I would recommend (DAC) to families that need professional care to care for their loved ones. As caregivers, we should not give up hope. We should do our best for those who are less fortunate. Together with the strong support of the Singapore Red Cross staff, we can enable people like Nurul to lead happy lives.”
Red Cross’ Day Activity Center welcomes passionate volunteers to help us bring a smile to our clients’ faces. To join us as a volunteer, head to redcross.sg to learn more. Look at Nurul’s happy face! Our volunteer, Nancy (standing behind Nurul) gifts her a teddy bear for her birthday.
