This year marks the National Day Parade’s return to the National Stadium after 10 years, and to celebrate this homecoming, the Esplanade will be raising its own three-day mini-parade.

Held from 7-9 Aug, the Spirit of the Parade festival will feature various band performances, interactive sculptures and the biggest outdoor bazaar ever held at the Esplanade. The entire event will span the entire outdoor bay area, from the Forecourt Garden to the Waterfront.

Here are some highlights of the festival that you can look forward to:

Heritage Eats & Singapore’s Next Generation Hawker Culture

When: 7 Aug, 4.30pm–5.30pm
Where: Open stage, library@esplanade

Singapore’s rich and multi-ethnic food culture stems from our migrant past, and our hawker culture can be traced back to the 1800s to the first sarabat (breakfast) stalls. While food trends have evolved, many of us still look to our favourite hawkers for that comforting taste of home.

In this session, renowned blogger Maureen Ow, or Miss Tam Chiak, will discuss our beloved heritage dishes, the evolution of our hawker culture and the emerging generation of young hawkers in Singapore.
