What comes to mind when you think of haunted places in Singapore? Old Changi Hospital? Tekong? We dug out some of the lesser known spots with their very own creepy pasts.
2. Woodleigh MRT
Woodleigh MRT station (on the Northeast Line for the unaware) currently sits on what used to be one of the biggest cemeteries in Singapore: Bidadari. Opened in 1908, the cemetery was a multi-religious site for Roman Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, and Hindus.
After its last burial on 31 October 1972, Bidadari cemetery closed for good. The land was left alone, for a few decades at least, until 2001, when HDB exhumed the 143,000 graves for a five year period to 2006, and moved the remains to Choa Chu Kang.
Woodleigh MRT station was completed and fully operational in 2003, but only opened for service in 2011. But why the long wait? Rumour has it that MRT commuters reported seeing ghostly apparitions as the trains passed through the station. The problem is that the station wasn’t opened yet.
