Huat To Do This Chinese New Year (That Aren’t Just Festive Fairs)

Fire up the festivities with these unique activities around town

Looking for ideas on how to get into the festive mood for Chinese New Year? From family carnivals to fortune-telling, there are a myriad of events popping up around town to give the Year of the Rooster a grand welcome.

Here are six events to check out:

Chinatown Festive Street Bazaar

When: Until 27 Jan, from 6pm

Stock up for your celebrations at the Festive Street Bazaar and Carnival, where 440 stalls are selling Chinese New Year-themed delicacies, traditional goodies, decorative items, costumes and more. Chinatown will also showcase its two-month long Street Light-Up (until 25 Feb) featuring handcrafted lanterns and interactive elements.

Help out the less fortunate and the eldery at the Chinatown Wishing Tree (until 27 Jan) at Chinatown Point. Each “Make a Wish” card costs $2 each and all proceeds will be donated to the Kreta Ayer Seniors’ Activity Centre.

There will also be a free Chinatown Walking Trail (21 & 22 Jan, 3.30pm – 5.00pm), where you can learn about Chinatown’s colourful past while taking in the celebrations. Pre-register at www.chinatownfestivals.sg.
