4. Gardens by the Bay’s Annual Chinese New Year Floral Exhibit
In the Year of the Dragon, Dahlia Dreams – Gardens by the Bay’s annual Chinese New Year floral exhibit – comes alive with a spectacular centerpiece: a nearly 7m-tall dragon that spans over 15m in length, rising magnificently amidst a backdrop of more than a thousand dahlias in diverse shapes, sizes, and hues. A portion of the dragon’s scales is adorned with meticulously arranged cut and preserved flowers in vibrant yellow and red.
Enhancing this captivating display are four vibrant dragon lantern sets, each representing the elements of metal, water, fire, and earth. To bring positivity to all visitors, the exhibit also showcases a scene interpreting the Chinese saying 鱼跃龙门, which translates to “carps leap over the dragon gate,” symbolizing courage and the pursuit of greatness. Adding to the dragon theme is an imposing dragon sculpture crafted from hardwood and recycled steel, a creation by British-born sculptor James Doran-Webb. This masterful artwork is the latest addition to his zodiac character series in the Flower Dome.
