One of Singapore’s largest and oldest towns, Clementi has received a facelift in recent years, resulting in an interesting blend of old and new places to explore.

Named after Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, Governor of the Straits Settlements from 1887 to 1893, this town is a bustling hive of activity that draws people from all walks of life. Spend a weekend with your family or friends to unearth these finds in Clementi.

Remains of the KTM railway still stand in Clementi — an interesting sight among the flora and HDB blocks of the town.

7. The old railway bridge

Those who love Singapore’s old charm will enjoy this relic hiding within Clementi. Completed in 1965 — coincidentally the year of Singapore’s independence — the KTM railway was the sole cargo connector from Malaysia to the Jurong industrial estates.

Use of the railway declined after the Ayer Rajah Expressway was built in the 1980s and, today, this portion is one of the railway’s last remains. Extending over Sungei Ulu Pandan, the track runs between Clementi Street 14 and
Teban Gardens.

Due to its state of disrepair, the bridge is closed to the public. Still, that shouldn’t stop you from getting a great view of the bridge nearby in the surrounding areas.
