Gastrobar Coq and Balls launches its brunch menu paired with beers
By Cheryl Chia
Start your weekend off right with a hearty brunch but, instead of hoity-toity champagne, pair your eggs with a mug of beer instead.
The Tiong Bahru area has changed beyond recognition in the past two years and gastrobar Coq & Balls is one of the additions to the scene.
Apart from interesting dishes, with even more intriguing names, Coq & Balls carries a wide range of beers and ciders on tap as well as in bottles.
Breakfast for Lunch
Late-risers will be happy to know that Coq & Balls’ weekend brunch begins at 10am and ends at 3pm, bringing you comfort food to nurse that weekend hangover, or to start your Sunday in a great way.
Coq & Balls’ signature brunch special, The Big Coq ($16), comprises sour dough toast, mushrooms sautéed with herbs, bacon baked beans, chorizo sausage, grilled vine tomatoes and a side of homemade scrambled eggs. If the name may be off-putting, the dish is not.
Also try their version of the frittata. Their Baked Eggs in a Pan ($15) features creamy eggs and chunks of potatoes with cheese. Lots of cheese.
Healthy Bites
If having a heavy egg-filled breakfast is not your kind of scene, Coq & Balls’ Baked Granola with Yogurt & Wild Forest Berries ($12) is a great alternative. We love the baked rolled oats and nuts in honey and Bulla yogurt topped with berries. Sometimes breakfast needs to be sweet, yet healthy.
If you’re in the mood for something savoury, try their Chicken Mango Salad ($14) – a roasted chicken breast salad with fresh mangoes and romaine lettuce in honey mustard dressing, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. You can also get this as a wrap if you prefer.
For dessert, Coq & Balls has brought in a selection of pies from Windowsill Pies. If you’re familiar with them, you would know that they have interesting names and are tasty as well.
