Escape to Paradiso Restaurant & Bar at Quayside Isle

By Cheryl Chia

Walking along the picturesque waterfront of Quayside Isle, you almost do not feel like you are in Singapore. For a break from the hustle and bustle, head down to the nine-month-old Paradiso Restaurant & Bar for some Latin fun.

Rich Latin American Flavours

Started by the Cuba-Libre Group, Paradiso Restaurant & Bar serves Latin-American tapas and large-plated dishes.

We liked the Crema de Champinon ($10), a sautéed button mushroom dish in a garlic cream sauce, and the Calamares es Tomate y Pimenton ($14), squid rings simmered in tomato concasse infused with paprika. Both are good dishes to pair with their house mojitos.

True to Latin American roots, the mains are fairly large in portion and made for sharing.

The Mariscos a la Valenciana ($32) is a large pan of paella with Arborio rice cooked in prawn stock topped with a seafood mixture of prawns, squid, mussels, fish and vegetables. We had to pace ourselves as it was hard to put down the spoon.

Sharing is Caring

Other mains such as the Pollo Al Mojito ($24), chicken with a mojito glaze served with patatas bravas – potatoes in spicy tomato sauce – and sautéed beans, and the Calamares Rellenos ($24) were also hot favourites at the table. The cheesy stuffed squids atop Cuban rice were comforting.

For a Latin take on fish and chips, the Bacalao en Salsa de Limon ($26), which is deep-fried cod with lemon dill sauce, is not bad at all.

Sweet Surrender

Don’t miss out on the dessert of Nutty Banana Rum ($12), banana baked in a mixture of spices, rum and mixed nuts, or Leche Frita ($12), deep-fried breaded custard with black fruit sauce.
