WeekenderEats: Discover Bornean Cuisine At KANTIN, Jewel Changi Airport

Hidden on Level 5 of Jewel Changi Airport, KANTIN is Singapore’s first restaurant dedicated to authentic Bornean cuisine and the only one of its kind in the city.

This marks the brand’s first venture outside Malaysia, bringing the rich flavours, stories, and traditions of Sarawak and Borneo straight to Singapore.

From the moment you step in, the experience is unforgettable. The restaurant’s design immerses diners in Bornean culture—earthy tones, rattan furniture, tribal accents, and a dramatic headhunter mask at the entrance.

Scarlet tassels float like jungle vines, and guests can even wear Bornean jewelry to embrace the culture fully. The bar impresses with tribal patterns in bright yellow and white, and a charcoal-black sculptural centerpiece evokes the mystery of the rainforest.

KANTIN’s menu is focused on balance. Tradition is honoured, but dishes are given a modern twist, making them approachable—and most importantly, delicious enough to keep you coming back.

Start with the Headhunter Pansuh Set (S$32++), featuring slow-cooked chicken in rich broth, purple rice parcels in banana leaf, and forest-inspired small plates like ferns with belacan, anchovy pickles, and citrusy jellyfish ceviche.

Seafood lovers will enjoy Sotong Bakar (S$18++), a smoky grilled whole squid with Sarawakian spices. At the same time, noodle fans can’t miss the Sarawak Laksa (S$14++), a creamy, tangy broth with prawns, chicken, and lime—once praised by Anthony Bourdain himself. Vegetarians will love the Rainforest Fried Rice (S$18++), packed with herbs, torch ginger, and tapioca leaves, complemented by shiitake and cauliflower bites.

Borneo Sling

Desserts are tropical and refreshing: Coconut Dream (S$10++), with calamansi jelly and coconut ice cream over sago, and Cempedak Ice Cream, sweet with a hint of savouriness. Drinks are equally inventive, from the non-alcoholic Three Sour Crush (S$12++) and Sarawak Teh C (S$10++) Special to signature cocktails like the Borneo Sling (S$26++) and Borneo Elixir (S$24++) rum negroni.

Why visit KANTIN? It’s more than a meal—a cultural journey through Borneo, blending indigenous ingredients, tribal traditions, and modern dining techniques. This unique concept has earned it a nomination for Asia’s Best New Restaurant 2025, making it a must-visit spot for foodies in Singapore, especially those seeking something different from Japanese, Italian, or mainstream cuisines.

KANTIN is located at  78 Airport Boulevard, #05-206-207, JEWEL, Singapore Changi Airport 819666.
