Nosh on these limited-time-only dishes & receive a S$20 voucher when you dine in from 19 April to 20 May 2019!
Unagiya Ichinoji, well-known for its XL Unagi Bara Chirashi Don, is turning one! To celebrate their first anniversary, the restaurant has launched two new dishes, which are available for a limited time only from 19 April to 20 May 2019. As a bonus, you’ll receive a S$20 voucher when you dine-in during that period of time!
Slurp up the Unagi Tantan Men (S$19.80) for a warm, comforting meal. Springy ramen noodles are soused in a velvety soup base that’s made of chicken broth blended with peanuts and sesame paste, before being topped off with spicy minced pork and half an ajitama egg (Japanese-style marinated ramen egg). Accompanying the bowl is a side of unagi rice as well as unagi chawanmushi and Japanese pickles – this set is good for two light eaters, or one hungry, unagi-loving person! We liked how fragrant the soup base was, although it did overpower the taste of the unagi.
Or, if noodles aren’t really your thing, go for the Ichinoji Mixed Box (S$36.80). The restaurant’s signature grilled unagi; cubes of fresh kaisen tuna, salmon and hamachi; glistening globes of fresh Japanese ikura and charcoal-grilled Kagoshima A5-grade wagyu beef; are served in a traditional shokado-style bento. Together with the unagi-topped chawanmushi and Japanese pickles, this makes for a satisfying and protein-filled meal! The sashimi was fresh and light, and the unagi savoury-sweet and deliciously charred, with the ikura providing bursts of texture with every bite.
Finish off your meal with the Pei Pa Koa Cheesecake (S$6.50++), available exclusively at the Eat At Seven outlet at Suntec.
You might be wondering: “Pei Pa Koa? The herbal syrup my mum/grandma gave me when I had a sore throat? In a dessert?” Well, yes, we were hesitant to try this at first, but trust us – the dessert really does work! Pei Pa Koa yoghurt panna cotta is layered with crushed digestive biscuits, and a mixture of cream cheese with Hokkaido milk. The topmost layer of the dessert is a melange of mascarpone, sour cream, cream cheese and an invigorating drizzle of Pei Pa Koa.
Our verdict? Creamy, mildly sweet, and surprisingly refreshing thanks to the light minty, herbal aftertaste of the Pei Pa Koa. It was delicious and moreish, and we especially loved the crushed digestive biscuit layers! Only 50 cups are available daily, and Pei Pa Koa is really good and liang (cooling) in the hot weather we’re having now!
