Mitzo: Contemporary Yet Classic Cantonese Cuisine

Known for their Cantonese dishes with a modern twist, Mitzo presents a refreshed and carefully curated menu.

Mitzo, located within Grand Park Orchard, serves up Cantonese cuisine with a contemporary twist, and is led by Executive Head Chef Nicky Ng. Helmed and carefully curated by Chef Nicky, the menu at Mitzo is one that reads of familiar dishes, yet with a modern touch; a testament to his attention to detail and ability to achieve a balance between the classic and the contemporary.

With the menu being divided into 12 sections (Supreme Specials, Soups, Appetisers, Fish, Seafood, Poultry, Meat Dishes, Tofu, Vegetables, Rice, Noodles and Dessert), it may be tough deciding on dishes to order. Especially with Mitzo’s revamped menu, there are both well-loved dishes, and new one to try – so we’ve picked out our favourites!

If you like having soup, we’d recommend the Braised Fresh Fish Maw in Carrot Broth ($38), one of Mitzo’s signatures. Warming, rich with flavour from the carrots and fish maw, and brimming with ingredients, this is a hearty (and wonderfully traditional way) to start your meal!

For appetisers, the popular Mitzo Premium Dim Sum Platter ($28) – featuring two servings each of Royal Shrimp Dumpling with Caviar; and Shrimp and Pork Dumpling with Baby Abalone – now has a bonus of Steamed Dumpling with Shrimp, Scallop and Sea Urchin. Perfect for dim sum lovers!  If you’d rather something with more meat, go for the Mitzo Premium Starter Platter ($24): it includes the signature Mitzo Special Barbecue PorkPrawn Coated with Caviar Sesame Mayonnaise; Monkey Head Mushrooms with Salted Egg Yolk; and Lobster Claw in Cumin Sauce.

We especially loved the Monkey Head Mushrooms with Salted Egg Yolk; and if you are like us and can’t get enough of the Mitzo Special Barbecued Pork ($18), you can order another platter a la carte as well!

A light yet no-less-delicious dish would be the Pan-fried Scallops with Milk and Egg White, topped with Crispy Scallop($32). Fresh, sweet scallops are served with a thick sauce made of egg whites and milk, that rather reminded us of a savoury and less milky version of Hong Kong’s famous steamed milk! This is all topped with crispy scallops that added a nice crunch.

Missing your carbs? Mitzo offers a wide selection for you to choose from, be it noodles or rice! Our favourite was the Egg Fried Rice with Baby Abalone and Seaweed ($19/serving), each mouthful redolent with wokhei and generously topped with abalone.

A dish to wow the table with would be the Roasted Coffee Pork Neck served with Crispy Beancurd Skin and Chinese Pancake ($18); fragrant with the caramelised bittersweet scent of coffee, or the Black Truffle Crispy Roast Duck ($38) if you’re feeling more indulgent! (We loved the crackly-crisp skin for the latter!)

End off your meal on a sweet note with the Champagne Jelly with Black Sesame Sorbet served with Honeycomb Cake ($16), a beautiful and equally wonderful-tasting dessert! The black sesame sorbet was surprisingly refreshing, pairing well with the mildly sweet cake, and we were disappointed when we were scraping the last of it from our bowls. Chocolate-lovers would enjoy the Chilled Avocado Milkshake with Rum & Raisin Ice Cream served with Deep-fried Chocolate Truffle Liqueur Dumpling ($16) – decadent yet oh-so-worth-it!

If you’re just popping by during lunchtime, or looking for a place for business lunches, Mitzo’s Dim Sum Set Lunch ($28++/3-course, $38++/4-course) is the perfect thing.

Choose a total of three dishes from a veritable selection of steamed, baked or fried dim sum, such as the Royal Shrimp Dumpling with Caviar, Charcoal Barbequed Pork Bun, Escargot Cheese Puff, or Deep-fried Shrimp & Crabmeat Dumpling.

This will come with a Double-boiled Soup of the Day, choice of three Dim Sum Selections and Dessert of the Day for the 3-course menu, and either the Dry-style Thin Noodles with Prawn Dumplings or the Porridge with Lobster Claw, Fish & Pork, as well as the Dessert Combination of the Day for the 4-course menu!

Wash down your meal with mocktails shaken up by Head Bartender Azlam Kadir. Inspired by signature Chinese elements and affordably priced at $10++, you can choose from the Bev For Champs – a healthy mix of red apples, fresh lemon, yogurt and honey; Chill Your B, a refreshing cooler made with watermelon, cucumber, fresh lemon and goji syrup; Daylight: a healthy mix of carrots, celery, orange and honey; or the cheekily-named Smooth Operator: a smoothie consisting of fresh blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, banana, soy milk and goji syrup.
