Full of Crab

The Chilli Crab has long been heralded as our national dish. The crab is usually cooked in an eggy and sweet chilli sauce.

The sauce is often mopped up with a side of fried mantou (plain bun).

Here are some of the best.

Momma Kong’s Crab Shack

A nice eatery that reminds its owners “of Mom’s place”, Momma Kong’s Chilli Crab and Signature Crab Bee Hoon Soup are among the highlights. The range of alcoholic beverages is good.

Roland Restaurant

Without Roland Restaurant there, perhaps, would be no chilli crab. Supposedly the inventor of the dish, its version is lighter than the heavy, starchy sauces of today.

Mattar Road Seafood Barbeque

This stall has been around for at least two decades. Their version has a thick, starchy sauce.

Seafood Paradise

Being out of the way does not stop this restaurant’s regulars. The gravy utilises lemongrass and shrimp for extra fragrance.

Red House

This is the first place to introduce fried mantou with chilli crab. If you prefer your sauce more nutty and spicy, you’ll like this one.
