True fans of Japanese cuisine know that kuro maguro, or bluefin tuna, is highly prized and renowned — even more so than the salmon sashimi loved by most Singaporeans.

In fact, a bluefin tuna recently fetched a hefty 74.2-million-yen during a wholesale auction at the famed Tsukiji market in Tokyo.

Now, the newly-opened Kuro Maguro is hoping to bring the fatty and creamy flavours of the premium fish to foodies here.

The Otoro Meshi comes with beautifully marbled and unctuous tuna belly.

Backed by Misaki Megumi Suisan, a wholesaler of maguro and sashimi in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, the restaurant will be offering 18 value-for-money and premium donburi bowls.

Value-for-money

Diners can expect competitive prices — from just $10.80 a bowl, as Kuro Maguro is able to ship the freshest maguro from the trawler directly.

The restaurant uses meat culled from blue fins that weigh a minimum of 280kg, as these fishes contain a good amount of fat as well as lean meat.

They use a technique called super frozen to ensure the freshness of its maguro.

Plus, they import the fish directly from Misaki Port to Singapore via ANA air freight, using a technique called super frozen to ensure the freshness of its maguro.

Our top picks from the menu? The Otoro Meshi, which comes with beautifully marbled and unctuous tuna belly; as well as the Salmon Oyako Meshi, featuring salmon chunks and juicy roe.
