As the elevator shot up to the level 29, I felt almost giddy with excitement.
The charming one-Michellin-starred ON Dining Kitchen and Lounge is the brainchild of Chef Philippe Orrico, best known for his casual diner Upper Modern Bistro.
French riviera chic
Stepping inside the two-storied restaurant, one is acquainted with the nautical themed interior, graced by elements of marble and wood, alongside pops of blue.
The ambient is decidedly relaxing, with vibes of the French riviera. While it’s as fine as fine dining could be, there’s no ignoring the fact that animated chatter in fluent cantonese could be heard all around — a sign of communal good times.
Vibrant flavours and playful creations
Our meal started on a good note with the Melon Gazpacho, a playful take on the classic melon and parma ham pairing.
Sweet and salty flavours came together nicely in the chilled broth, which featured tiny orbs of cantaloupe melon and stripes of briny cured ham.
Next, an oceanic platter of Haddock, Saffron Risotto, Piperade, Squid was served. The clean and fresh tasting haddock, with its skin separately grilled to a crisp, was the star of the dish. It was well complemented by the fragrant saffron and the spicy notes of the piperade.
Another favourite of ours had to be the Roasted Pigeon, Artichokes, Baby Spinach & Lemon Chutney.
Must-tries
Because it wouldn’t do our visit a justice without a taste of Chef Philippe Orrico’s signature 63° Eggs, we caved in.
Our rendition came with textural elements like frogs’ legs, pearl barley, aged comté. Equal parts creamy and rich, with an earthy flavour, this truly hit the spot.
Plus, we couldn’t help but luxuriate in the pleasure of bursting the golden yolk.
Another favourite of ours had to be the Roasted Pigeon, Artichokes, Baby Spinach & Lemon Chutney. Dripping with jus, the pigeon was delightfully tender, with the lemon chutney cutting through its richness.

While we didn’t sample cheese this time round, ON Dining’s dedicated cheese room is known to be stocked with a large selection of delicious international cheeses. Curated by Hong Kong’s premier fromagier Jeremy Evrard, the platters are bound to satisfy any lover of fine cheese.
For its impeccable service and faultless cuisine, ON Dining is certainly worth the buzz, whether you’re new to Hong Kong’s dining scene or a first-timer.
