Hangyodon Makes His Southeast Asia Debut At Wong Fu Fu

This New Year, a familiar blue face is making an unexpected splash in the local dining scene.

For the first time in Southeast Asia, a Hangyodon-themed pop-up menu has arrived at Wong Fu Fu, bringing together comfort food, playful design, and a generous dose of nostalgia in one delightfully immersive experience.

First introduced by Sanrio in 1985, Hangyodon — the half-fish, half-human character known for his toothy grin and earnest optimism — has quietly built a devoted fanbase over the decades. Now, as he marks his 40th anniversary, Hangyodon takes centre stage in a dining pop-up that feels charming and lighthearted rather than loud or over-the-top.

Character collaborations may be increasingly common, but this one stands out for its thoughtful tone. Much like Hangyodon himself, the pop-up leans into warmth and relatability. Despite often finding himself in awkward situations, he remains kind, optimistic, and quietly resilient — qualities that have made him endearing across generations. That same sensibility carries through into the Wong Fu Fu collaboration, inviting diners into Hangyodon’s offbeat world in a way that feels welcoming and fun.

The restaurant is transformed with Hangyodon-themed décor — think gentle blue hues, whimsical illustrations, and charming details that reward a closer look without overwhelming the space.

At the heart of the collaboration is Hangyodon’s favourite comfort dish: Hangyodon’s Chilled Ramen (S$23.90++). Served as a complete set, the dish anchors a menu inspired by ocean motifs and playful flavours.

Each Chilled Ramen set also comes with a free Hangyodon toy, adding a collectable element that will delight longtime fans and families discovering the character for the first time. It’s a small but thoughtful touch that turns a simple meal into a keepsake experience.

Beyond the ramen, diners can choose from two hearty mains: Make a Splash with Hangyodon’s Mantou Burger (S$21.90++) and Hangyodon’s Ocean Feast (S$21.90++). The Mantou Burger also offers a vegetarian option, making the menu inclusive and easy to enjoy for different preferences.

Dessert lovers won’t be disappointed either. The Bubbling Fun Hangyodon Swiss Roll (S$14.90++) is a must-try. Shaped like Hangyodon’s adorable face, this fluffy Hokkaido milk Swiss roll is filled with bubbly bubblegum-flavoured fresh cream, served with juicy strawberries, extra cream, and cute heart-shaped marshmallows — a sweet ending that’s as Instagrammable as it is delicious.

Even the snacks and drinks join in on the Hangyodon theme, making every part of the experience irresistibly cute.

Sanrio fans will appreciate the attention to character detail, families will enjoy the approachable menu and playful atmosphere, and groups of friends looking for something different to do over the holidays will find this pop-up an easy, low-pressure outing.
