#WeekenderEat: Dine At Saketoshi And Pay With Cryptocurrency

Why pay with cash when you can pay with Cryptocurrency at Saketoshi?

Travelling to the Land of the Rising Sun with no restrictions may still be hard. However, if you are craving authentic Japanese cuisine, you can give the newly opened sake bar Saketoshi a try.

The Japanese restaurant resides in UE Square Shopping Mall and it exudes an aesthetic that echoes the vibes of a modern izakaya. It has an alfresco dining area for guests looking to enjoy sake outdoors within the Central Business District at night.

Enjoy authentic Japanese bar bites and sake from different regions of Japan. Their must-try includes the Amaebi Karaage (S$15) has a signature seafood fragrance and subtle sweetness, while the Ika Geso Karaage (S$15), with its umami-packed flavours, is the perfect snack to pair along with a cold pint of Japanese beer or cocktails.

Another side that we highly recommend is their Scallop Ikura (S$24), featuring pan-seared scallops that hail from the plankton-rich—and thus nutritious—waters of Hokkaido and topped with umami-rich ikura (salmon roe).

The modern izakaya’s donburi is also equally hearty as well; its Seafood Donburi comes brimming with slices of umami, pan-seared scallops, and sweet prawns, while the Aburi Engawa Donburi (S$28) features a flame-seared halibut fin atop Japanese pickles, ikura and pickled ginger. You can also choose to upgrade the donburi with an onsen egg.

Finally elevate the experience with the Uni Tempura (S$24 for two pieces), Saketoshi’s signature offering comprising fresh sea urchin perched atop a bed of seaweed tempura and plump and juicy slices of otoro, and garnished with a hearty dollop of truffle caviar.

What makes Saketoshi different from other restaurants out there is that you can pay with Cryptocurrencies. Established by a group of crypto-investors, you can pay for your meals with cryptocurrencies. In fact, its name is a witty play on the pseudonym for the elusive Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

Since most of us have dabbled in crypto exchanges, we thought it would be interesting to offer cryptocurrency payments,” says Mr Jeff Ong, one of the founders of Saketoshi and a serial restaurateur who previously ran a chain of izakaya across Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. He adds: “We hope to also kickstart conversations between budding and seasoned cryptocurrency enthusiasts here. Think of it as a safe space to talk about cryptocurrency with no backlash or judgement.

Saketoshi is located at UE Square Shopping Mall, 81 Clemenceau Avenue, #01-14, Singapore 239917.
