Hot on the heels of Hokkaido’s BAKE Inc and Hong Kong’s Honolulu Cafe, comes another bakery famous for their tarts.
Hailing from Hong Kong, Tai Cheong Bakery gave Singaporeans a teaser of their custardy egg tarts when had a pop-up booth at the Takashimaya Food Hall in March this year.
Now, they’ve found a permanent home at Takashimaya basement, where they draw daily queues. Needless to say, the star of the bakery is their egg tart (four for $7.60). A buttery shortcrust pastry, which snaps off like a cookie, is filled with an egg filling that solidifies into a silky smooth and almost custard-like texture.
Other popular offerings include the moist and savoury Chicken Pie ($2.80 each), as well as the buttery Cocktail Buns ($1.80 each), which comes with desiccated coconut within.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you, queues are to be expected. Try dropping by at non-peak hours (read: working hours) to get your fix.
