5 Newly-Minted Michelin-Starred Restaurants Worth Trying

These star-studded restaurants display culinary prowess and true creativity

On 29 June, Michelin Guide Singapore bestowed 38 restaurants with its coveted stars, up from last year's 29 awardees.

While previously awarded Forest and Terra didn’t retain their stars, 11 new entrants now take their spots in the dazzling tier, clinching one Michelin star each.

Waku Ghin was bumped up to join the two-stars category, a well-deserving honour according to industry insiders.

As with last year, Joël Robuchon Restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa retains three stars and is the only F&B establishment in Singapore with that accolade.

Compared to the fanfare of 2016’s inaugural affair, this year's award ceremony felt a little lacklustre in comparison, considering neither new hawker stalls nor three-Michelin-starred worthy entrants were inducted to the prestigious list.

With that saying, the newly-minted restaurants still dazzle in their own right.

Here are some of our favourite new Michelin Star awardees:

For most, forking out money for fine-dining remakes of local hawker food may be rather excessive and unnecessary. Because why do that when authentic hawker dishes are cheaper, arguably tastier and also readily available? However, it seems like Michelin Guide has a soft spot for the creatives and culinary innovations, giving locally-run Labyrinth a star for its avant-garde interpretations of modern Singapore cuisine. With that saying, the dishes demonstrate flavourful vigour, thanks to Chef Han’s laborious efforts in making everything (including sauces) from scratch. The restaurant’s signature Chilli Crab dish, made of crispy soft-shell crab, chilli crab-sauce ice cream and mantou, is truly a work of culinary art.
