3 Eateries Serving Up Crispy Chicken Rendang In Singapore

Maybe Gregg Wallace would finally approve

Earlier, we thought that one Michelin star Peranakan restaurant Candlenut was the only one gallant enough to put controversy in a headlock to offer what seems like a culinary taboo - crispy chicken rendang. Oh, how we were wrong.

In fact, two local eateries and one furniture giant have risen to the occasion to make lemonade out of the #rendanggate debacle. While Candlenut's version was only available for one night of its eight anniversary, these new contenders offer theirs slightly longer, giving everyone a taste of MasterChef UK Judge Gregg Wallace's infuriating remark.

So here are three places to sink your teeth into crispy chicken rendang, for now:

3. Rumah Rasa

Only good things can happen when an Indonesian restaurant attempts to recreate the crispy chicken rendang. Bay Hotel’s Rumah Rasa has jumped at the chance of doing just that, offering its own rendang rendition that we daresay looks pretty much like a traditional nasi lemak dish. Laid on a banana leaf, you’ll find suspects of sliced tomatoes, cucumber, a pyramid of rice and even a side of emping, bitter Indonesian chips, to complement the fried chicken drumstick and the accompanying bowl of rendang gravy. The dish is available from now until the end of April.
