1. Wander through the island’s villages
The gem of Santorini is home to several villages that are each unique in their own right. That being said, the villages still display a glamorous union from the aesthetic makeup of their Cycladic architectures: Cliff-side buildings made of odd-shaped stones, before deliberately whitewashed in complete harmony to block out the sun’s warmth. With a complementary base of pristine white, the Santorinian buildings are usually given splashes of vibrant colours, as displayed by Fira, the main town of Santorini. Visitors will find the village’s traditional houses sporting lovely Venetian elements such as arches, vaults and colourful stairs. Elsewhere, the village of Oia is known for its neoclassical mansions and charming churches that are accessed via narrow cobblestoned pathways. With the sleepy volcano as the backdrop, a self-guided tour through these gleaming villages is enough to get you acquainted with the Santorinian lifestyle. You just have to be to experience so.
