How to maximise your long weekends next year and the best times to book your flights

According to the Ministry of Manpower, 2017 will bring us seven long weekends – where a public holiday (PH) falls on a Friday or Monday. However, by taking just six days of leave, you can enjoy three more long weekends, stretching your total vacation time to a whopping 36 days.

We show you how to do just that, and where you should consider travelling to during each period.

Take leave on: 

The New Year period can be an expensive time to travel, so save your leave for a more strategic time down the road. If you must, Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia, would make a good short getaway. Travel search engine Kayak this year registered a peak interest in year-end travel to KL, implying a low demand in the next month.

Indeed, a quick search on Skyscanner turned up KL as the cheapest destination to travel to in January – at $41, it’s about half the cost of flying there in December.
