You may know him as a smooth space smuggler who travels with his hairy companion Chewbacca, or as one of the great leaders of the Rebels Alliance – and that’s it. Han Solo is an iconic yet mysterious character; you may love him, but who is he really?

Star Wars fans can finally pick Han’s brains with this new film, which will delve into the history of the captain of the Millennium Falcon, as reported on various sources.

The movie, yet to be titled, is to be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, the team who previously directed the successful Lego Movie.

A New Face for the Hero

Actor Harrison Ford – who last played Solo in Return of the Jedi (1983) and will appear in The Force Awakens – may not be returning for his character’s exposition. No juicy details on casting have been released yet, but the rumour mill has been churning wildly with possibilities.

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul posted a screenshot on Instagram when the Star Wars official Twitter account started following him, commenting that his “dreams are coming true”. Could he be their hottest candidate?

Meanwhile, user-generated content website Buzzfeed has voted action star Josh Hutcherson – famed from The Hunger Games series – as their top choice.

The scruffy and charismatic Chris Pratt, who recently launched into superstardom with Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, sports an incredible likeness to Han Solo, so he’s been getting votes too.

From the Creators of Star Wars

What has also been reported is that the script will be written by father-son duo Lawrence and Jon Kasdan; the senior Kasdan had co-written Star Wars films The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The untitled Solo film is slated for release in May 2018.

Meanwhile, if you can’t wait for more Han Solo or Star Wars action, look out for Star Wars’ latest sequel The Force Awakens, coming out this Christmas, and Star Wars anthology film Rogue One due end of next year.
