How does catching a film at a drive-in cinema reminiscent of 1970s Jurong sound to you? What about soaking in the old-meets-new charms of Jalan Besar? From 6 to 22 April, the Singapore Heritage Festival (SHF) returns for its 15th edition that offers all that, and many more over three weekends. Discover the lesser known aspect of our little red dot, experiences places and stories anew, and enjoy our tangible and intangible heritage. More than 120 programmes and activities will take place across key locations this year — Jurong, Jalan Besar, Chinatown, Bras Basah.Bugis and Toa Payoh.
Here are some of the activities you can look forward to this year:
Jalan Besar (13 to 14 April)
The Jalan Besar neighbourhood gets activated for SHF for the first time this year, with activities centred aroud Tyrwhitt Road. Drop in the area to experience contemporary artist’s
interpretation of the spirit of Bunga Tanjong, a New World Amusement Park dance hall, and
joget session on the street; discover home-grown talents and makers at the Big Road Market;
and hop on a series of guided food and architectural tours to sample food from old school
kopitiams and ‘east-meets-west’ modern cafes alike.
