Start making your vacation plans and restaurant reservations, because the prestigious World's 50 Best Restaurants recently held its Awards Ceremony at Marina Bay Sands, unveiling the 2019 list of the top restaurants in the world amongst a gathering of the best chefs, restaurateurs, and food writers around the globe. For the very first time, the week-long celebration of gastronomy and the best of the international culinary scene was held in Asia - and in Singapore, known for our love for food and diverse culinary culture.

We were filled with pride when it was announced that Odette, the modern French restaurant helmed by Chef Julien Royer at the National Gallery and only local restaurant on the list, clinched No.18 this year, rising ten spots from its 2018 ranking.

If you're a gourmand or traveller seeking a new gastronomic experience, however, these are the 12 new entrants to the 2019 World's 50 Best Restaurants List, spanning the globe from Hong Kong and Bangkok, to Spain, Portugal, San Francisco, and Moscow!

12. Leo (No.49)

Leo, started by mother-daughter team of chef Leonor Espinosa and sommelier Laura Hernández-Espinosa, aims to showcases little-known Colombian ingredients such as corozo fruit (a tangy red berry), arrechón (an aphrodisiac drink) and bijao (a banana-like plant), while championing local communities and gastronomic traditions. Also: ants!

Their menu, called Ciclo-Bioma, focuses on Colombian ecosystems, and explores the ways new species can be used in the kitchen. There’s also an extensive wine menu, and non-alcoholic drinks like corozo berry juice.
