Start making your vacation plans and restaurant reservations, because the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurants recently held its Awards Ceremony at Marina Bay Sands, unveiling the 2019 list of the top restaurants in the world amongst a gathering of the best chefs, restaurateurs, and food writers around the globe. For the very first time, the week-long celebration of gastronomy and the best of the international culinary scene was held in Asia – and in Singapore, known for our love for food and diverse culinary culture.
We were filled with pride when it was announced that Odette, the modern French restaurant helmed by Chef Julien Royer at the National Gallery and only local restaurant on the list, clinched No.18 this year, rising ten spots from its 2018 ranking.
If you’re a gourmand or traveller seeking a new gastronomic experience, however, these are the 12 new entrants to the 2019 World’s 50 Best Restaurants List, spanning the globe from Hong Kong and Bangkok, to Spain, Portugal, San Francisco, and Moscow!
1. Noma (No.2)
A rebirth of the Nordic restaurant that earned the title of World’s Best almost four years in a row (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014), moving from its original location in Copenhagen’s Christianshavn neighbourhood to Refshalevej Island in 2018. Noma serves up contemporary gastronomy based on seasonal, local ingredients, with a modern interpretation of cooking techniques and menus divided up based on the various seasons of vegetable, game & forest, and seafood, with wine pairings.
With the restaurant running its vegetable season menu (June 25th – September 21st) currently, you can expect dishes like Potato & Nasturtium Tart with Sea Buckthorn & Blackcurrant Butterfly; Pumpkin Seed Tofu, Walnut mole & Grilled Rose Petals; and Quail Egg with Plum & Rosehip Chorizo.
