#WeekenderStays: A Weekend In Phuket

Thai hospitality, fun times and adventure beckon at the Angsana Laguna Phuket

At 323m, Angsana Laguna Phuket’s swimming pool is the longest in town.

If you’re looking to spend a weekend away, why not consider a beach vacation that’s close to home, yet foreign enough to remind you that you’ve been transported to another place altogether?

Just two hours away by plane, Phuket is a perennial favourite among Singaporeans and it’s easy to see why. Thai hospitality, mouthwatering food and a favourable exchange rate all make for a pleasant trip to the Land of Smiles.

Check yourself into the roomy Laguna Premier Room.

Skip the crowded public beaches and touristy areas, and check yourself into the Angsana Laguna Phuket instead. You might be tempted to splurge on the gorgeous One- or Two-Bedroom Lofts, but if you’re there for a romantic getaway, the roomy Laguna Premier Room is large enough to do a few cartwheels across the room.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet at the Market Place.

The sprawling resort boasts eight different eateries, including Market Place, which serves a breakfast and an international buffet spread during lunch and dinner; Baan Talay for authentic, delicious Thai food; and Bodega & Grill for meats and Mediterranean cuisine.

For the more adventurous, there are daily classes for water sports such as kayaking, sailing and waterboarding. Or, start your day right with a yoga or pilates session. Little ones won’t be left out as well, with daily planned activities at the Kids’ Club inspired by a tree house.

As the resort is one of the seven properties owned by Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts and located within the Laguna enclave, you are encouraged to explore and use the facilities of neighbouring resorts as well. For example, you can hit the green at the Laguna Phuket Golf Club located right next to Banyan Tree Phuket.

Spot the heart-shaped bunker at the Laguna Phuket Golf Club.

The 18-hole course was renovated in 2014 and is set against a backdrop of nature (think: mountains, rice paddies, Banyan trees and water bodies). If you’re a rookie, you can book a lesson with expert coach Sean Harrison, who’ll patiently take you through an introductory lesson of swinging and putting.

Rest, relax and enjoy a soothing massage.

Feeling a tad achy after your golfing session? Book yourself an hour (or two) of bliss at the Angsana Spa. If you’re feeling particularly sore, go for the sports (or deep tissue) massage. We promise you won’t be disappointed.

Get ready for a weekend of sun, sand and sea.

If you’ve been hearing music pumping drifting through the air — don’t worry, you’re not hearing things. It’s probably a party getting started at Xana Beach Club. Located right next to the sea, here you can grab a bite, enjoy a dip in the pool or dance the night away on the beach. Pro tip: Ask the bartender for the signature spicy mango cocktail.

Sit back, relax with drink in hand and watch as the sun goes down.
