Belgium
Specialities: French fries, moules et frites, waffles, chocolates
Contrary to popular belief, ‘French’ fries were not invented France. The dish came from Belgium.
It is believed that US and British soldiers landed in Belgium during World War I and encountered the Belgian army, that spoke French, and wrongly thought that they were eating fries in France.
Well, perhaps “French fries” is a lot catchier than “Belgian fries”.
The dish of mussels and fries, or moules et frites, is accepted as Belgium’s national dish.
Nonetheless, Belgium’s world-famous desserts have not been lost in translation. Belgium is known for yummy Belgian chocolate as well
as waffles. I don’t know about you but I’m charmed by the crispy exterior and warm, soft insides.
All these only make me want to travel to Europe to discover what more sweet secrets there are.
