3. Hopping Procession

In Eastern Germany, in a village called Echternach, up to 14,000 men, women and children come together for a hopping procession. To partake in this religious ceremony, they dress in white shirts, dark trousers and hold on to handkerchiefs while “dancing”.

In 2010, this procession was included in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
