5. What should I do with my unsightly acne scars?

Mild acne scars and blemishes often just need time to heal. As long as new outbreaks are prevented, existing marks will fade with the help of lightening creams.

Acne blemishes like brown pigments left behind from the acne can be treated with topical lighteners like azelaic acid. Azelaic acid is good for reducing the blemishes and also the active lesions.

Severe acne scars often cause pock-marks and divots in the skin. Unfortunately, acne scars like depressions on the skin, cannot be improved from topical products alone, and often require laser treatment sessions or resurfacing treatments to smooth out the skin surface.

These resurfacing treatments use laser or radiofrequency to help with the rebuilding of collagen under the skin, thereby allowing the depressions on the skin to appear less obvious.
