Holidays are over and the kids are back to school. Due to Covid-19, it is compulsory for the kids to wear masks to school.

The thing is, how do you look for a suitable mask for your kids? Here are five things you should know before buying a mask and where can you buy it.

1. Density is more important

Face masks come in a variety of materials such as cotton, denim, and spandex. However, when it comes to preventing COVID-19 spread, a mask material is not the priority. The virus particles are extremely small, hence, it is more important to know how tightly woven the material is. The more compact the fabric threading, the more protective the mask. Cotton tends to be more tightly woven than other materials.

2. The level of comfort is the key

Since the kids will be wearing the face masks for more than 6 hours, it is important for the mask to be comfortable. The bands around the ears should not be fastened too tight, and the material should be soft. Just go with your child's preferences, comfort should be one of parents' top priorities when buying or making a mask.

Some of them may be reluctant to wear the mask as they deem it as uncool. You can add a fun element by allowing them to choose their own designs. They may be more willing to wear the mask if their favourite characters are printed onto them.

3. Proper mask usage

Even though they may be wearing the mask throughout their lessons, it is also important to maintain proper hygiene.

Do remind them to wash their hands with soap and water, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable, before putting on a face mask. These steps should also be done after touching, adjusting, or removing the mask to prevent contamination.

Educate them on the correct way to wear a face mask and that it should completely cover their mouth and nose. A properly fitted mask should also fit snugly along the sides of the face.

4. Cleaning your mask properly

Every time your kids remove their masks, the outside corners should be folded in on themselves to prevent contamination. The masks should be washed daily with mild detergent and water. Remember, washing it with detergent is very important. After which, dry the masks completely in a hot dryer on the highest heat setting. Store the masks into a clean bag after that. Do not leave it hanging around.

5. Buy from brands that you can trust

The face mask market is growing rapidly and there can be a lot of questionable products available right now. Some may look safe and adorable but they may not be effective against Covid-19 virus. Right now, the best kids' masks will probably come from a brand you trust.
