7. Play with negative space 

While there is nothing wrong with a cluttered flat lay, sometimes less is more and at times may be refreshing to look at. Instead of giving each object the required space to breathe, try leaving negative space purposefully. If you intend to add some text to your image, it may be wise to keep your items to the side or at the bottom. White space can also be used to place emphasis on the object you want people to focus on.
