Not a bird, not a plane, but a drone
Haven’t you heard? Selfie-sticks are passé. A drone (with camera attached) is the latest travel accessory to have, perfect for taking that bird’s eye view shot of you lounging on a yacht while you sip on your third mojito.
In fact, this unmanned aerial vehicle or simply termed, drone, is replacing your trusty mailman.
Just today, Singtel unveiled the world’s first drone mail delivery system, which took its successful maiden flight — Lorong Halus to Pulau Ubin.
Considering the sheer potential of unmanned aerial flights, we’re already bursting with ideas on things we’d love to be delivered to us, courtesy of Mr. Drone.
Here are our top four.
1. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper; what have you?
Look up! It’s your pizza delivery
I don’t know about you but I’ve got my favourite food delivery companies on my speed dial, in case hunger pangs strike at any time of the day.
Be it Macdonalds, Pizza Hut or steaming hot plates of salted egg yolk crab from famous zichar stalls, it’d be wonderful to have my lunch or dinner orders dropped off at my convenience.
Breakfast in bed? Check. Lunch on my work desk? Check. Mr. Drone, you’re welcome any time *wink*.
Best of all, unlike your delivery man on vehicle, the drone’s delivery schedule doesn’t have to be subjected to traffic jams or road blocks.
2. All the shopping in the world
Did my shopping fly by yet?
Shopaholics dreaming up a utopia where packages can reach your hands within 30 minutes or less — dream no more.
Amazon Prime Air is a future delivery system from Amazon designed to safely get packages into customers’ hands using small unmanned aerial vehicles.
It’s still in the works but we can already imagine how useful it’d be.
Imagine being able to track your drone package on an app every step of the way, until that stunning silk dress or latest iPad model reaches your home.
Feeling underdressed for a spontaneous party invite you just got? Shop for new heels on the go and have a drone deliver them to you, without the need to head home for a change.
If you happen to spill laksa on your pristine white dress, worry not because you can always have another outfit air-delivered to you, pronto.
3. Medication
Have your medication delivered in an instant
Vacations can easily turn disastrous when you get a stomach upset from unhygienic street food or fall prey to bed bug bites.
Save yourself the trouble of locating a legitimate pharmacy by having a drone deliver the medication you need, right where you are.
In fact, drone delivery would be highly useful in the case of patients who urgently need their asthma inhaler or allergy medication.
4. Important documents
Sometimes, my nightmares involve me forgetting to bring a thumb drive to an important presentation or my passport when I head to the airport.
How nice would it be to have a drone deliver the things I’ve forgotten!
Clearly, it would save many people from their goldfish memory.
Better yet, if only drones could detect lost keys and retrieve them from behind my sofa — now that would be a dream come true.
