The Mandai nature precinct just got even more street cred

Mandai Safari Park Holdings (MSPH) has just revealed its plans to establish Mandai as an integrated nature and wildlife destination, beyond its existing offerings.
Subject to approvals and completion in phases from 2020, the Mandai Nature Precinct may soon be home to two new wildlife parks: a Bird Park and a Rainforest Park.
The new Bird Park
The new Bird Park is slated to house one of the world’s largest collections of birds. It will house nine large immersive aviaries with different landscapes from around the world, including wetlands, bamboo forests and rainforests.
Visitors will be treated to free-flying birds in a setting almost identical to their native habitats.
Some popular features in Jurong Bird Park will be re-imagined in the new park. These include a magnificent new waterfall and a custom-designed amphitheatre for performances.
The new Bird Park will also feature a full-fledged breeding and research facility for critically endangered species, with special emphasis on Southeast Asian species such as the Bali Mynah, the Black-winged Starling and the Blue-crowned Laughingthrush.
All-new Rainforest Park
Over at the Rainforest Park, visitors will be fully immersed in the sights and sounds of the tropical rainforest of Southeast Asia.
You will be able to meander through forest floor pathways to the treetop canopies, uncovering many secrets of the tropical rainforest – a major reservoir of terrestrial biodiversity.
The two new wildlife parks will be developed on previously occupied and impacted land, and stringent environmental protection measures will be put in place to minimise any potential impact on the flora and fauna in the area.
Other family attractions
Besides immersing in an all-new wildlife experience, guests will be able to enjoy various attractions like an indoor nature-themed education centre, eco-sensitive accommodation options and free open spaces. The latter includes beautiful gardens, spacious boardwalks, waterways and playgrounds.
In fact, you may even be able to spot wildlife outside of the parks. Animals living in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR) will be able to access an eco-bridge spanning Mandai Lake Road as they move between the central and northern reaches of the CCNR.
