These apps have the cutest graphics and stories about Singapore that will have you addicted in no time!
Is your bus taking its sweet time to arrive, or is your monotonous train ride sapping your soul? Download these games into your smartphone and be tickled by the humorous entertainment that our fellow Singaporeans have come up with!
KAN-CHEONG! Kopitiam Saga
This wacky fast-paced game is set in two of Joo Chiat’s beloved kopitiams: Huat Huat Kopitiam and Raja Kaya Eating House. Challenge up to three other players in different mini-games throughout the kopitiam, and claim your throne as the best (i.e. “Most Kan-cheong”) in the neighbourhood!
The “Auntie Lai Liao” mini-game is one many of us can relate to. Players have to slurp up a bowl of noodles as quickly as possible while keeping a lookout for the parking attendant “auntie” – or face certain death (kena fine).
You can also form kaki groups with friends to take on other kaki groups. Can’t wait to play? KAN-CHEONG! Kopitiam Saga will be available from Jul 1, just in time for SG50.
KAN-CHEONG! Kopitiam Saga will be available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store from Jul 1.
Guess the Word SG – Charades
Ever had a get-together with friends where you’ve suddenly run out of things to do? Charades is always a great go-to party starter – but this is no ordinary game of charades.
Act out a bunch of Singapore-themed phrases, from childhood memories to local slang. Decks are frequently updated so you’ll always have new content to keep everyone guessing. It’s all fun and games until you have to act out “itchy backside”.
Needless to say, this is definitely not a game to play on the train!
Guess the Word SG – Charades is available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Building the Lion
Not only can you play your part to build the nation, now you can also build your own virtual Lion City! Travel around a colourful 3D Singapore-shaped game board with other players and look out for cards to collect.
These cards showcase the best of Singapore, including food stalls and iconic buildings that you can assemble in your own Lion City. You can even play nostalgic mini-games such as chapteh and longkang (drain or canal) fishing. If I could, I’d build a char kway teow stall on every single street!
Building the Lion is available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store from Jul 1.
Rickshaw Rush
In this game, you play a rickshaw driver ferrying all sorts of passengers throughout the island, visiting unique landmarks and attractions. But beware: Take on more passengers than you can handle and you risk angering your customers, who will leave without paying. If only we could do the same on overcrowded trains during peak hour.
Stick around and you might pick up some familiar characters, including Zubir Said, Sir Stamford Raffles and Tan Tock Seng. The final witty touch of realism: Not even this game’s esteemed characters can avoid ERP gantries!
Rickshaw Rush is available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store from Jul 1.
Kopi Tiam Mini
If you’re a fan of games such as Diner Dash, you’ll enjoy managing this Singapore-styled coffee shop. Serve eager customers looking forward to feasting on their favourite local dishes, from mee rebus to kopi-o.
Deliver these delicious delights through more than 30 levels across three districts: Little India, Chinatown and Geylang Serai. Along the way, you’ll learn more about what ingredients go into your favourite local dishes.
Earn enough money and you can hire recognisable helpers for your kopitiam, like a You Tiao Uncle and a Kopi Girl. This developer will be launching another adorable game, Satay Club, on Jul 1.
Kopi Tiam is available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
