Thinking of getting a pet? Adopt instead of buying! There are many pets in shelters who would love a warm, happy home
Have you decided to get a pet companion? That’s great! Imagine adding a new member to your family, or giving someone a new home – can you already feel the joy it will bring?
Now, imagine that feeling or joy amplified even greater when you adopt a pet! The best place to find a new furry friend or “fur kid” is at a shelter. The pets at these shelters depend on adopters such as you to give them a second chance at finding a home.
Why buy at an exorbitant price when you can adopt and save an animal? Here are some of the pet rescue and adoption societies in Singapore.
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)
Most people know The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), a registered animal welfare charity. The SPCA is not a government agency and relies on donations from supporters to continue its important role as animal protector.
Over $2,000,000 annually is required to carry out its animal welfare work. SPCA receives around 400 pets and stray animals every month.
Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD)
Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD) was established in December 2000 as a non-profit organisation with the mission to improve the welfare of stray and abandoned dogs in Singapore.
It aims to fulfil its mission through various activities and programmes including the rescuing, fostering and re-homing of stray and abandoned dogs, advocating sterilisation as a means of controlling the stray population, heightening public awareness of the responsibilities involved in pet ownership as well as highlighting the virtues of our local dogs.
HOPE Dog Rescue
HOPE Dog Rescue is a group of animal lovers who strongly feel that all animals should be treated with love and respect. The group helps animals who are abused, neglected or abandoned.
The team comprises volunteer animal rescuers who hold full-time jobs or are students but they believe that despite their busy schedules, the dogs still need help. HOPE does not manage a physical shelter but depends on the commitment of its volunteers and fosterers, and supporters, to help its rescue work.
Voices for Animals
Voices for Animals is a group of animal lovers who are passionate about animal welfare. They strive to be the Voices for Animals to tell their stories.
Voices for Animals is a registered society and its members are actively involved in animal rescue (dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and other domesticated pets), stray feeding as well as re-homing of these rescued animals.

Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD)
Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD) is a group of volunteers banded together by the common passion and conviction to be part of a unified voice with the purpose of making a difference and effecting change in the situation of the welfare of street dogs or homeless strays.
SOSD is donation-funded, so its rescue efforts can only reach as far as its resources and manpower are available. Its shelter is located at Pasir Ris Farmway 2. Visits are by appointment only.
