9 Heartland Heartthrobs Of The 90s We Went Gaga Over

Nostalgic eye candy for you to fondly fawn over

Remember the yesteryears of rushing home after school to catch your favourite sitcom or game show? While some of our favourite actors are still pretty active today, many of us still miss the "golden" age of the 90s in Singapore television.

We take a look at nine iconic heartthrobs of the 90s and what they're up to today.

6. Tay Ping Hui

Tay is like the Leonardo DiCaprio of Singaporean celebrities. Barely a year after his debut in local showbiz, Tay won Best Supporting Actor at the 1999 Star Awards for his portrayal of a gang leader in “Stepping Out”. Since then, he has been consistently nominated as Best Actor awards, but was always outdone by his fellow actors.

He became an icon of “manly” characters such as in the “CID”, “Honour and Passion” and “CLIF” series. However, it was his role as an ah beng-turned-chef in “Bountiful Blessings” that earned him his first Best Actor Award in 2012.

Before his acting career, Tay was reportedly the General Manager of a Subway franchise and was planning to pursue an MBA at Harvard University before he was headhunted. We thank the gods (and his headhunter) for this.

Where he is now

Still going strong in acting, Tay’s latest series, “Legend of the Condor Hero 2017”, is a collaboration with a Chinese studio that begins airing today. He plays the notoriously fearsome leader Genghis Khan.

He also recently sliced off his fingertip by accident while filming for a cooking show.
