Case in point? The Great Wall: One Woman's Journey, which brings to life the legend of Meng Jiang Nü in a soaring musical odyssey.
In this musical, the protagonist's tears not only caused a fracture in the Great Wall, her spirit also pierces through the pride of a villainous emperor.
The theatre spectacle follows Meng Jiang Nü (Na-Young Jeon) in her quest to find her husband, Fan Qi Lang (Nathan Hartorno), who has been captured by Emperor Qin Shi Huang's (George Chan) soldiers to work on the Great Wall.

3. The versatility of wooden planks
Aside from the set’s elaborate props, it is the fantastical scene of Meng Jiang Nü traversing through the nation to find her husband that gripped our attention. From a barren forest to a surging river, wooden planks were manipulated to depict the many scenes Meng Jiang Nü appears in as she soldiers on.
One notable setting is the formation of a bridge, achieved by the elaborate coordination of the remaining ensemble who strategically stacked the wooden planks together to form a somewhat study structure as the Jeon bravely clamours on.
