With this year’s theme song picked (that comes with an almost four-minute music video to boot) and the coveted show’s tickets already issued to some lucky Singaporeans, it is safe to say that the National Day Parade is almost upon us.
As red and white outfits are pieced together and businesses begin rolling out their National Day’s deals and bargains, the majority of us can only look forward to 2018’s National Day Parade funpacks.
In line with this year’s theme “We Are Singapore”, the highly-anticipated funpacks are presented in hard-wearing tote bags, featuring 18 artworks by student artists from Special Education (Sped) schools.

Created by 38 students from 18 schools, the artworks depict everything related to our nation, from the city’s dramatic skyline to even local colloquial expressions such as ‘Lelong Lah’.
These bundles of patriotism contain 22 items, including snacks and bottled water, to not only tide the spectators through the whole procession, but also get them involved in the celebration.
Two notable items included are the Light Bubble, embodying something like a light-enabled handheld maraca that rattles when it is shaken, and a sizable plaque that is painted red on one side, and white on the other. Doubling up as a useful sunshade, the plaques are said to be for audience participation during the parade.
Aside from familiar Singaporean snacks such as cream-filled bun from local bakery brand Sunshine and fish skin crackers in salted egg yolk flavour, the funpack also includes a hand-dandy visor, a discount booklet, a full-colour magazine filled with fun facts about NDP 2018, and of course, a miniature Singapore flag standee. The funpack is also fitted with a shoulder sling, plus an additional long sling for various wearing preferences.
A total of 252,000 funpacks will be given out at collection points at The Float @ Marina Bay.
