10. Experience Korean traditions at a photo exhibition

K-pop fans, do you know that there’s a whole lot more to Korean culture than EXO, CNBlue, and that Korean oppa gracing your iPhone wallpaper? For one, there’s the Haenyeo, an important part of Korean’s heritage that has been recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.

In the 1960s, more than 30000 Haenyeo dived off the shores of Juju and Udo daily. Daily. They hold their breath for two to three minutes, all while gathering clams, abalone, or seaweed from the ocean floor. Due to the dangerous nature of the work, the rich tradition is slowly being eroded, with only around 5000 Haenyeos and two-third of them older than 60 years old.

Professional photographer Jose Jeuland invites visitors to dive into the disappearing world of Haenyeo in both monochrome and colour photos, all while enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the East Garden at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore.
