Exploring Singapore: 8 Fun Finds In Clementi

From giant family playgrounds to ethnic enclaves, we explore the surprising activities and grub that Clementi has to offer

By Pamela Chow

One of Singapore’s largest and oldest towns, Clementi has received a facelift in recent years, resulting in an interesting blend of old and new places to explore.

Named after Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, Governor of the Straits Settlements from 1887 to 1893, this town is a bustling hive of activity that draws people from all walks of life. Spend a weekend with your family or friends to unearth these finds in Clementi.

3. Singapore’s cheapest satay?

Upon quizzing my native-Clementi friends on their favourite food in the neighbourhood, they immediately responded, “Chai Ho Satay”, where “there’s always a very long queue but it’s worth it”.

Not only is the skewered meat succulently marinated and barbecued over a charcoal fire — leaving just the right amount of charred bits — the satay costs $0.42 per stick, making it one of the cheapest satays you can find in Singapore.

Weekender understands that other than its satay, Chai Ho’s main kitchen also makes bak kwa that is just as popular during the Lunar New Year period.
