Wish you can attend the famous Comic-Con held in the States?

We feel you. But don’t despair, because we’ve got our own pop culture convention happening right here in Singapore!

Taking place on 8 and 9 September at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, the annual Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) will make its return for an action-packed weekend to celebrate pop culture and basically all things geeky. While we’re still expecting more updates and announcements, what we know so far about this year’s installment is that the lineup is set to be bigger and more exciting than ever!

Here are six things we’re most looking forward to at the pop culture extravaganza:

4. Exciting contests to get your creative juices flowing

Go wild with your most dramatic costumes at the STGCC Championships of Cosplay presented by SINGER! Submit your costumes inspired by characters or elements from the pop culture world, for a chance to win the amazing grand prize: A fully sponsored trip to Chicago to compete at the 2019 Crown Championships of Cosplay finals, a SINGER sewing machine and $1,000 in cash.

More sewing machines and cash prizes will be awarded to the second and third places, so don’t miss this chance to flaunt your creative powers! STGCC will be selecting the shortlisted candidates before the event, and applications are now open until 5 August.

If your artistic talents are more inclined towards illustrations, challenge yourself at the STGCC 2018 Comics Art Cover Contest. This year’s official artwork features a mammoth-sized monster, Merzilla, surrounded by several superheroes who are the only ones who can defeat it.

So what’s your own interpretation of the story behind the artwork, and what superpowers do you think the monster and the heroes have? Express your original ideas through any visual medium by 20 July online (where you can also find more entry details). The winning artwork will be printed as a variant cover of STGCC 2018 programme guide.
