Singapore’s theatre scene is on the rise, and you don’t want to miss the chance to catch the latest new plays by our emerging and undiscovered writing talents. There’s no better place to do so than at the Singapore Theatre Festival, which continues to be the only festival in Singapore dedicated to developing and producing new local works.

5. Forum panels that continue the discussion with the audience

Have some thoughts of your own to share after seeing the plays? Keep the conversation going at the Art and Life Sessions, forum panels that engage the audience in discussing the social issues and ideas in the plays. If “Press Gang” gets you stirred up about the state of the media today, join “Publish and Perish: The Perils of Singapore Journalism” to discuss authoritarian control of the media, ‘fake news’ and more.

Veteran journalists Kristen Han, Terry Xu, P N Balji and the “Press Gang” playwright Tan Tarn How will be on the panel to share their shrewd wisdom. Captivated by the migrant stories by BIRDS? You can learn more about migrant workers’ rights at a forum panel held that same day. Notable civil rights activities, like Stephanie Chok and Jolovan Wham, will be at “Us and Them: Are Foreigners Forever Foreign?” to discuss the social and legal barriers that migrant workers face in Singapore.

Join “Publish and Perish: The Perils of Singapore Journalism” on 8 July, 5:30pm, and “Us and Them: Are Foreigners Forever Foreign?” on 15 July, 5:30pm. Both are held at LASALLE’s Lowercase Café.
