Singapore’s theatre scene is on the rise, and you don’t want to miss the chance to catch the latest new plays by our emerging and undiscovered writing talents. There’s no better place to do so than at the Singapore Theatre Festival, which continues to be the only festival in Singapore dedicated to developing and producing new local works.

2. First-time playwrights pushing the boundaries

Besides celebrating veteran writers and actors, the Singapore Theatre Festival is also the best place to discover bright new voices. This year, debut playwrights Chong Woon Yong and Ruth Tang will be exploring hot-button issues from fresh perspectives. Chong also stars in his play, “G.F.E.,” a monologue which follows a modern man’s search for love through his physical relationships with women. Not any less hard-hitting is Tang’s “Building A Character,” which stars rising actress Rebekah Sangeetha Dorai in a personal discussion of making it as an Indian actor in Singapore.

Catch “Building A Character” from today to 8 July, and “G.F.E.” from 12 to 15 July.
