Despite our well-acclaimed (sometimes rigid) education system and world-renowned Changi Airport, Singapore may not necessarily excel when it comes to producing quality brands that perform on the world stage. However, with National Day just around the corner, we did some probing and found some local household names that have gone on to do bigger things beyond this island-state. These brands have muscled their way through the bigger players within their industry to build a name for themselves and simultaneously put Singapore on the world map.

4. Bee Cheng Hiang

You simply cannot do without Bakkwa (barbeque pork jerky) during the Chinese New Year in Singapore. While there is a never-ending debate on whether Bee Cheng Hiang or Lim Chee Guan’s Bakkwa is better, for the purpose of this article we featured the former as its overseas ventures have brought the local treat to prominence in several countries. It is definitely hard to pinpoint what exactly in the marination that makes the meat so tasty, even after having it for years, we can never say no to the immaculate pieces of charred meat. In fact, this iconic product from Bee Cheng Hiang is no longer the only cravings we get when you step into any one of their stores. Many locals are huge fans of their Crispy and Original Pork Floss, the Deep Fried Prawn and Golden Floss rolls.
