Voted one of Thailand Tatler’s best restaurants since its opening, Nara Thai brings the best of Thailand to Singapore

Foodies, the wait for fine Thai food is over with the addition of Nara Thai in Ion Orchard.

If you’ve tried Nara Thai’s original outlet in Central World and Eight Thonglor Building in Bangkok, you’ll be familiar with the delicious Thai street food with a more refined touch.

The Singaporean menu mirrors its Thai counterpart for the most part but some recipes and items might have been added or tweaked in certain dishes.

Sawadee Ka Nara Thai

We recently went to the Nara Thai outlet in Central World, in Bangkok, and I must say I prefer the Singapore versions of some of the dishes, such as their Hors d’oeuvres Nara ($17.90) which includes Thai Fishcakes, Pandan Chicken, Pomelo Salad and Satay Ga – barbecued chicken in turmeric and coconut marinade.

The version of their Hors d’oeuvres Nara in Thailand lacks the Pandan Chicken, which is a crying shame as the Pandan Chicken is peppery and fragrant from the leaf wrapped around it. You definitely shouldn’t miss out on this.

We also liked Phu Nim Phad Pong Karee ($16.90), stir-fried soft shell crab in yellow curry. It was reminiscent of the childhood snack, Twisties, and had a moreish quality to it, together with the rice.

The Singaporean version of the Phu Nim Phad Pong Karee is a little thicker than the Thai version, which I prefer. Either way, this is another must-try dish.

Colourful Desserts

True to the Thai culture, Nara Thai in Singapore also serves their special I-Thim Nara, a coconut ice cream served with a full selection of Thai sweet condiments such as red ruby, roasted peanuts, nata de coco, palm tree seeds, jackfruit, sweet potatoes, chendol and corn. You can customise your very own dessert.
