As good as a chemical peel, without the downtime

You don’t have to be Sleeping Beauty to know the importance of a good night’s rest. With your skin cells going into regeneration mode, there’s no better time to slather on some nocturnal-specific skincare products.
One of my favourite skincare brands recently introduced an anti-ageing overnight treatment that promises the efficacy of a facial peel.
It claims to offer accelerated cell turnover, refined texture, improved skin tone evenness, and softer, more radiant skin, without any of the downtime or redness associated with dermatologist peels.
Naturally, I was thrilled to try it.
Kiehl’s has partnered with Bolivian suppliers and a foundation that sustainably sources the quinoa husk from local farmers.
Made with superfood
The new Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate ($99) is formulated with quinoa husk extract — the first time in a facial skincare product, and takes advantage of the superfood’s exemplary skin exfoliation properties.
After cleansing my skin thoroughly and padding it all over with a toner, I added a few drops of the Micro-Peel Concentrate to my palm before applying it to my face.
It’s got a light scent to it, like a cross between fruit juice and alcohol, but nothing unpleasant. A dab or two was all it needed for the product to be absorbed into my skin.
After the first night, I woke up with skin that felt softer to the touch. My complexion also looked brighter on the whole.
If it’s good enough for Nicole Kidman, it’s good enough for us.
Gentle but effective exfoliation
It’s been almost two full weeks now and I’ve been using it religiously every night. Verdict? I love how gentle it feels on the skin.
For a facial peel, there was none of the tingling sensation. The exfoliation process was powerful nonetheless — the annoying tiny flakes that occasionally builds up around my nose have all disappeared.
Overall, my cheeks feel (almost) baby soft and my skin tone looks more even. A refined complexion also means that I can go easy on my concealer and foundation. Time to nail the no-makeup makeup look!
