By Cheryl Chia
If you’re IN the mood for a cheap buffet lunch and you work in the in the Western area, try this South American inspired buffet.
The Latin Quarter lunch-only buffet menu boasts nine to 12 items including dessert. At a mere $13.90 Nett, you have the license to stuff yourself.
Influenced by Native American, African, European and Asian cuisines, it features robust flavours through a combination of spices and ingredients such as maize, papas criollas (potatoes), beans and flour. The buffet items change weekly and rotate every two to three months.
The Mexican-inspired Fire Roasted Maize and Tortilla soup is a must-try. The heady broth kept us hankering for a second serving. The Spiced Ground Beef and Black Beans with chilli was great with the three kinds of rice available – tomato rice, yellow rice and white rice.
Give us the Chilean Glazed Sweet Potatoes over French fries any day. The lunch buffet is available from Monday to Friday, 12pm to 3pm. A high tea menu will soon be introduced.
The Latin Quarter also serves up Pura Shares ($4.50) with flavours such as soursop, mango, passion fruit and the lulo – a fruit native to the Andes Mountains in Columbia, Ecuador and Peru.
They also carry coffee from famed Colombian brand Juan Valdez, in a variety of blends. Try the Colombian lagers such as Aguila, Club Colombia and Redds ($9.50 a bottle, $32 for a jug) or a glass of Chilean vino.
The restaurant is also child-friendly, with children below 12 years old dining for free with every paying adult.
