The Theory of Everything has a relatively unknown cast, but it’s already raking in top scores and awards
On its surface, The Theory of Everything looks like a stuffy indie film about a snowflake-special couple.
But look past its opening scene and you’ll find out that it is, in fact, a romantic biography of genius physicist Stephen Hawking.
It’s told from the view of Hawking’s ex-wife, Jane Wilde Hawking, whose book “Travelling to Infinity: My Life With Stephen” inspired this film.
A Work of Genius
Set in the 1960s, The Theory of Everything reveals the life of young Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) during his days at Cambridge University.
Find out how he fell in love with a literature student, Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones), who would go on to support Hawking and his revolutionary endeavours in physics.
It’s a moving look at the past of the internationally-acclaimed physicist before his body succumbed to a motor-neuron disease.
The Rise of an Underdog
Directed by James Marsh – the man behind cult classic Wisconsin Death Trip (1999) and award-winning documentary Man On Wire (2008) – The Theory of Everything is set to be the underdog blockbuster of 2015.
Since its limited release in the United States late last year, the film has already garnered raving reviews from critics, and is in the line-up for a multitude of awards.
It has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, and has won several categories in film festivals. The results of its nominations will be announced as early as 11 Jan.
A Touching, Timeless Tale
Even if you’re not a fan of “indie” films – or films that don’t feature an A-list cast – The Theory of Everything is worth the glimpse for its personal insight into one of the greatest minds of our time.
Sit down, relax, and get to know the brilliant Stephen Hawking beyond his accomplishments in the realm of physics.
It’s no mind-bending reality; you may even find yourself appreciating the discoveries of the great physicist. Who knows? This might just be your grand answer to life, the universe, and everything.
