The opening of Superheroes Concept Cafe seemed to be quite a hush, despite it being the first superhero themed cafe in Singapore. Our thoughts?
It was easy to miss this place. Take a step too far and you would have skipped right past this two-storey place, which is tucked between two large establishments. The comic book pages plastered all over the walls hinted that you would soon be entering the lair of a Marvel fan.
A little disappointing
A great deal of effort went into prop-sourcing and collectible-hunting, I give them that. But all in all, the place felt breezy and empty. The chairs and tables were plain, even though the walls were stocked to death with collectibles enough to make even the most avid collector turn green with envy.
Plus points for creativity
I liked the vintage meets modern vibe of the collectibles. While the place itself is ordinary, the collectibles were spread across an impressive range. The posters look frayed and worn down (intentionally, of course), a stark contrast to the mint-in-box condition of the figurines. It was a nice outcome.
On food and drinks
The food came while I was admiring the colorful spread of figurines next to their life-sized thor cut-out. Surprising as it is, bento boxes are the signature in this place. I would have expected a more All-American food offerings, perhaps pizza or hot wings?
I tried their Battle Hunger ($10), a simple box of rice with chicken and salmon. It was ordinary, but the atmosphere elevated the dish. The drinks offered here are the modest usual, I opted for a simple ice lemon tea ($1.50).
