It’s time to start planning for the mid-year school holidays. Get ahead of the crowd and start booking tickets for some family fun!
With the large-scale Travel Revolution expo fair starting next week, you’ll need some ideas on where to bring the family this June holiday. Here are some thought-starters that you can scope out deals for!
Legoland Malaysia
Even if you’ve been there before, Legoland Malaysia is always introducing fresh and fascinating displays to its visitors. Running until end-June is an all-new Lego Friends Live show, which features a five-girl cast, original Lego Friends music and an exclusive story written specially for the resort.
Legoland Malaysia is now also offering a special VIP Expedition. This personalised guided tour will let you dine with Lego costume characters, get express access to rides, receive free Legoland merchandise and experience exclusive Lego building sessions with Master Model builders.
You’ll even get to build a mini Lego version of yourself and have it placed in the famous Miniland area! The VIP Expedition is going at RM 765 (adults) and RM 665 (children). Annual Pass holders and hotel guests are entitled to an RM 200 discount.
Hong Kong Disneyland
You may have heard of Hong Kong Disneyland’s Ironman Experience expansion coming up in 2016. But you don’t have to wait until then to hit these magical lands – it already has spectacular new features you’ll want to catch with the kids.
Marvel as your favourite Disney and Pixar movies burst to life in an unforgettable night parade. The mesmerising Disney Paint the Night parade made its debut in Hong Kong Disneyland late last year, illuminating the streets with more than 740,000 individual lights, seven original floats and performers glowing from head to toe.
Featuring the bubbly characters from Monsters, Inc; Cars; The Little Mermaid; and Toy Story, the Paint the Night parade is the first LED parade created by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
And here’s the most exciting part: you’ll be able to interact with the parade with the new Mickey Magic Paint Brush, which changes colours on the floats and performers! You can also pay a visit to the Tomorrowland Bootique and be painted in make-up by professionals before joining the party.
Universal Studios Japan
Why fly all the way to Japan for Universal Studios if we have one here? There are plenty of great reasons why – much bigger park grounds, other exclusive rides and the endless supply of sashimi – but, for me, the biggest persuasion is to visit USJ is for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Fan of Harry Potter or not, you will be astounded by the sheer magnificent scale of the Hogwarts castle here. The castle grounds are open for you to explore the classrooms and corridors from the movies. Step into Dumbledore’s Office and the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, and chat with some moving portraits!
The Flight of the Hippogriff is a family-friendly ride that whisks you away on a bewitching adventure. But if you’re up for something more adrenaline-pumping, take a gander at the award-winning Forbidden Journey, and experience the thrills of flying on a broomstick with a furious dragon hot on your heels!
Water parks in Dubai
Not only is Dubai home to the tallest building in the world – the Burj Khalifa – it also has some of the wildest water parks known to man.
Forget the usual slip-and-slide into a pool. Atlantis in The Palm’s Aquaventure has a collection of rides that will steal your heart (and soul).
Take the Leap of Faith off a nine-storey vertical mega slide and speed into a clear tunnel, surrounded by real sharks and rays. Or step into a capsule and sit tight while you wait for the floor to drop beneath you, plunging you from the top of the tower at a speed of up to 60km/h!
If you’re travelling here on your birthday, you’ll get to spend a whole day at Aquaventure for free.
Atlantis boasts not just wild water coasters; it also has a Dolphin Bay and a Lost Chambers Aquarium, among other attractions, where you can get closer to marine life at a more reasonable speed.
Dubai is also home to insane water park Wild Wadi – just outside The Palm – whose heart-stopping rides appeared in The Amazing Race, The Amazing Race Asia and The Amazing Race Australia.
So grab your planners and start checking these great destinations off your list – the kids will thank you for the unforgettable holiday treat!
